In the Eye of the Beholder
A simple trip to the beach meant differently to different people. For Nikita it meant a panoramic view of the sun, making its way to greet another day. For Sarah it meant a time to relax under the sun and soak up all that vitamin D. For Anna it was a time to cool off with the waves of the open sea. For Priyanka it meant dipping her feet in the water while being hesitant but longing to plunge into the overpowering wild sea, if only she could overcome her fear of its wide bottomless waters. As for me, it was a haven to let my thoughts run free from all the clutter of daily life. The sea reminds me of a huge bowl in which the Universe collects the tears of its people that are shed on its shores. It gives me a sense of belonging and comfort of having someone soak up my tears despite getting its waters saltier than it already is. The sky reminds me of how we all are part of one single being despite all the differences we have brought about. Despite the beach being separated from the waters, it still belongs to the sea. Watching my friends engaged in their own 'right way' of spending time on the beach put another thought in my head, "One's 'right' is not another's wrong". That is, if you look at it from a broader perspective. Like how one society thinks that women are only meant to raise a family while another accepts her to be an independent individual having her own personality and freedom to design her own life. Like how one society expects a man to be like a rock with no emotions while another raises him to express himself rather than holding it all in and being abusive. There is no right or wrong set in stone. Even though the beach is separated from the waters, everytime the waves lap at its shores, it takes a piece of the beach with it back to the sea. Simply put, everything is in the 'eye of the beholder'. A simple 'that's the right way' meant differently to different people.
